Service to serve Symbian, MeeGo, Qt and Java

Nokia reveals intention to acquire Motally
Though not yet finalised, Nokia has announced it has signed an agreement to takeover mobile analytics provider Motally for an undisclosed fee.

Motally offers developers and publishers in-app tracking and reporting, the idea being the stats help studios understand just how consumers engage with their titles.

Motoring with Motally

Nokia claims it will continue to work with Motally's existing customer base once the deal goes through, with the Finnish firm also adapting its set-up to serve Symbian, MeeGo, Qt and Java based apps.

"The acquisition underpins Nokia's drive to deliver in-application and mobile web browsing analytics to Ovi's growing, global eco-system of developers and publishers, enabling partners to better connect with their customers and optimise and monetise their offering," said Nokia VP of media, Marco Argenti.

The two parties estimate the acquisition of Motally – which currently employs 8 people – will reach its conclusion in Q3 2010.

Non-stop Nokia

The purchase comes at a moment of transition for Nokia, with the giant preparing to launch MeeGo with Intel next year.

Nokia has also recently unveiled a new touchscreen device – the X3 – which harks back to its original range of phones design wise, with the firm's major smartphone hope – the N8 – set to make it debut in September.

It's currently unknown whether Motally's deal with Smaato – which sees Motally's cross-platform tools integrated in Smaato's SOMA ad platform – will be impacted by the move.
