If the amount of noise the Wholesale Application Community (WAC) is making at Mobile World Congress is indicative of its longterm chances, then its future would look very bright indeed.
Following on from the body announcing it is officially open for business, the WAC has revealed associate member HP is to aid the process of laying its foundations overseas by providing systems integration services for three Korean carriers.
Clear for landing
Said operators - SK Telecom, Korean Telecom and LG U+ - are currently developing a clearinghouse that will provide a vital link to WAC's global app development system.
In short, bringing HP's expertise in the field on board will enable them deliver apps to their customers via their own app stores, though the Korea-WAC platform itself will actually function as an intermediary - handling transactions and processing for all three firms.
"The innovative Korea-WAC approach creates growth opportunities for carrier service providers and application developers, and will ultimately enhance the mobile experience for millions of users," said VP and GM of communication and media solution at HP, Erwan Menard.
"HP believes WAC can be a catalyst for re-shaping the global landscape, and Korea-WAC might well be a model for other countries."
All parties claim the Korea-WAC platform will be fully operational later this year.
