Days after it announced support for HTML5, mobile browser based games portal itsmy has revealed it is set to add location based features to its roster.
Players posting scores to the platform's leaderboards will soon be able to attach their records to their location, utilising a new API that makes use of the phone's GPS.
Location, location, location
"Location is a new social layer which makes mobile gaming more fun," said CTO Jukka Saarelainen.
"Instead of having one high score in a game, you now can have hundreds of them all over your favourite places."
The move is part of itsmy's attempts to strengthen its social standing, allowing players to more easily connect with players in their area by tapping up leaderboards that scope out the local talent.
"With this social API itsmy will bring a new level of interaction to the gamers which gives everyone a mission related to the place they are just visiting, the restaurant they are waiting for their lunch," concluded COO Sabine Irrgang.
The first title to implement the new location based leaderboards will be Facebook friends based challenge itsmy Quiz Challenge.
