An official statement released via the GSMA's official site has confirmed earlier rumours that an agreement has been reached between the metro workers and the city's authorities to call off the strike action planned for congress week.
Taxis will also be operating as usual, despite previous suggestions in the the Spanish media that they too had planned strike action in sympathy with the TMB.
As yet no such agreement has been made with the bus workers, but it is understood that a basic bus service may still operate. Meanwhile, the GSMA have also put in place a contingency plan for coaches to the venue from 15 key locations.
The GSMA's full statement reads as follows:
"The metro workers from TMB have announced that they have reached agreement with the government and have voted overwhelmingly not to strike. The metro system will operate as normal during the GSMA Mobile World Congress, held 27th February through 1st March 2012.
There has not yet been a resolution between the bus workers and the government, and therefore the contingency plans announced at 9:00 am CET on Saturday, 25th February remain in place. The GSMA will update attendees should further information become available.
The contingency plan addresses several areas, including transportation, venue access, registration and security."
The news should come as a great relief to both organisers and attendees of the show, but will doubtless be less welcome amongst the ranks of local taxi drivers and private-hire transport firms.
