The iPhone Quality Index boasts over 200,000 reviews from websites like 148Apps, Pocket Gamer, and Arcadelife, and uses a unique metric to create a single definitive score for each iPhone title.
Given Illusion Labs's Blast-A-Way mixes head-scratching logical puzzles with a gorgeous 3D world and plenty of explosives, it's easy to see why it tops the iPhone Qi game chart for August 2012.
It's had some stiff competition, mind, from the likes of perennial boardgame favourite Ticket to Ride Europe Pocket and from Mikey Shorts, a charming retro-inspired platformer that challenges you to complete each stage as quickly as possible.
Ninth-placed epic adventure game Horn has also proved a big hit over the past four weeks, thanks to a beautiful Zelda-inspired 3D fantasy world and a rip-roaring plot.
Just behind it, Organ Trail: Director's Cut takes a completely different approach to excellence, with a retroer-than-retro art style and darkly humorous survival sim gameplay.
Qi's Top 10 iPhone games of August 2012
|2||Ticket to Ride Europe Pocket||9.2||3|
|10||Organ Trail: Director's Cut||8.7||11|
N.B. While we only display the average score to one decimal place, the list is generated to further significant figures. We just don't show them all.
And, naturally, this is a static graph based on live listings which are subject to constant change as new releases and reviews emerge.
In order to provide a regular marker of the critical zeitgeist, however, we will continue to round up the best of the iPhone games released each month to provide the definitive Quality Index top ten.
