With pre-orders having kicked off back in June, Unity Technologies has now officially launched the latest version of its multiplatform development engine.
Unity 4.0 comes with new features such as DirectX 11 support, built-in Mecanim animation tools and a number of new 'high-end visual capabilities for all platforms,' such as real-time shadows on mobile.
Four the win?
But the update isn't all about graphics.
When PocketGamer.biz spoke to Unity Technologies CEO David Helgason at Unite 2012, he was keen to emphasise that many of the new features are actually focused on aiding workflow, or how developers think about their development model.
"Unity 4 will see the addition of an incredible number of new, highly advanced, features and continuous improvement across the tech to be released in smaller, faster increments than Unity has seen in the past," explained Helgason in a statement accompanying the company's announcement.
"It's an exciting time for Unity and the 4.0 release marks the beginning of a great new era for our technology."
You can pick up the update from Unity's website.
