Europe and Asia up first

HTC to launch Mango handsets Titan and Radar for Windows Phone in October
At a press event in London, HTC has announced its two new Windows Phone handsets - dubbed Titan and Radar - will hit the shop shelves in October.

The firm is yet to reveal whether the devices are tied to any specific carriers, or cast light on their price points, but both phones - which will be some of the first to run Mango - will initially roll out in Europe and Asia.

Clash of the Mangos

HTC is billing the Titan as the higher spec model of the two, boasting a 1.5GHz processor, 16GB of embedded memory and 512MB of RAM.

A 4.7-inch super LCD touchscreen with 480x800 WGVA resolution display also graces the device, as well as an 8MP camera to cap it off.

The daintier Radar comes with the same resolution screen, but at a humbler 3.8 inches and is powered by a 1GHz processor.

HTC has also confirmed it'll sport 8GB of internal memory, 512MB of RAM and a 5MP camera.

Both phones will also support HSDPA, reaching speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps.

Man-gone?

Microsoft will be hoping HTC's refreshed line-up, along with the first Nokia devices, will improve Windows Phone's modest market share.

The most recent numbers from comScore state Microsoft holds a 5.7 percent share of US smartphone subscribers, a long way behind Google on 41.8 percent and Apple on 27 percent.

On the plus side, Windows Phone Marketplace is growing apace, weighing in at 30,000 apps in its first 10 months.

That means it's adding new apps at a faster rate than Android Market was at the same stage, though the store still trails behind the 250,000 titles currently available on Google's platform.
