Microsoft confirms Xbox Live functionality for Windows 8

So says the Major

Microsoft confirms Xbox Live functionality for Windows 8
Building on the platform's integration with Windows Phone 7, Microsoft's Larry Hryb – better known as Major Nelson – has confirmed Xbox Live will feature in Windows 8 when it rolls out in 2012.

Speaking via his blog from Microsoft's BUILD 2011 event in Anaheim, California, Hryb said the platform would bring users "games, music, movies, and TV shows to your favourite Microsoft and Windows devices".

A-live and well

Hryb made no mention of support for tablets, though Microsoft general position is to ensure the Windows 8 user experience is identical across all hardware, suggesting Xbox Live will be available wherever the OS is.

"At BUILD we are showing that it is easy for developers to create games for Windows 8 that take advantage of the power of Xbox Live," he concluded.

"We have much more detail to share about the capabilities of Xbox Live on Windows and look forward to the opportunity to do so in the near future."
