Applifier has just released some interesting research about word-of-mouth marketing for mobile games.
As part of this, it asked 1,800 people about their recognition about the big social mobile gaming networks - an area in which hundreds of millions of dollars have been spend over the past couple of years.
Unknown unknows
The largest section of the survey 'Didn't know any' when asked the question 'Which of the following mobile game services have you used?'.
Unsurprisingly, Apple's proprietary iOS service Game Center was best known, with 34 percent recognition.
Perhaps demonstrating North America bias, Playphone was next with 18 percent, and the now shuttered OpenFeint third with 10 percent.
After this, it's piecemeal, with even giants such as Mobage and GREE scoring lowly.
Perhaps that's why Google decided to focus on a broader play, using Google+ for its now live mobile gaming services.
