It may not have always been the most vocal backer of Windows Phone 7 the firm having previously suggested bada and Android are its priority but Samsung has confirmed it plans on launching devices for Microsoft's OS.
Indeed, Samsung claims it has several devices lined up to launch in Europe, US and Asia during 2010.
Opening windows
In a statement proclaiming the company's long term commitment to the platform, Samsung's head of mobile in the UK and Ireland, Simon Stanford, went as far as to say Windows Phone 7 will be a crucial element of the firm's output in the coming years.
"The addition of Windows Phone 7 devices to Samsungs smartphone portfolio is a significant milestone," said Stanford.
"Samsung's new Windows Phone 7 based smartphones will play a key role in reinforcing Samsungs leadership in the smartphone market and commitment to providing a range of devices across a variety of platforms."
Joining the party
Samsung is just one part of a small, yet nonetheless efficacious roster of OEMs behind Windows Phone 7, joining Acer, Dell, HTC and LG.
"For years, Samsung has been a key partner in bringing new Windows phones to customers all over the world," said corporate VP of Microsoft's OEM division, Steve Guggenheimer.
"Windows Phone 7 is an important release and we look forward to deepening our collaboration with Samsung on mobile devices and beyond, with our multi-screen strategy."
