Previously devised as a move to boost its stock price, Motorola has revealed 2011 might well be the year when its mobile phone business splits from the rest of the company.
As reported by Bloomberg, co-chief executive officer Sanjay Jha has claimed Motorola's handset and set top box division will likely be partitioned from Motorola's main operations as early as Q1 2011.
Spinning around
"The spin is looking good for first quarter, the early part of first quarter," said Jha at the unveiling of six new Android powered handsets.
"Get ready, Motorola is bringing Android based smartphones to all consumers."
Three of Motorola's new Android line up the Bravo, Flipout and Flipside have already been snapped up by AT&T, while the enterprise focused Droid Pro will be offset by consumer friendly handsets such as the Citrus and Spice.
All aboard Android
All such phones are devised to give Motorola a sense of distinction in the Android race, with Jha claiming that, because there are so many handsets running Google's OS , individuality is key.
"This is now an innovation race," added Jha. "It's a good thing for consumers and for carriers."
Jha also suggested Motorola is considering working on Windows powered tablets, although he claimed the firm would wait for the next version of the OS presumably Windows 8 before committing itself.
