Nintendo subsidiary The Pokemon Company has issued a statement saying it will "continue to combat" the sale of unauthorised versions of its products, after a duo of scam Pokemon apps appeared on the App Store.
Apple has since removed Pokemon - Pocket Edition and Pokemon Yellow from sale, but not before thousands of people purchased the 99c illegal apps, propelling Pokemon Yellow to #3 on the US iPhone gaming chart.
It's worth noting that Pokemon - Pocket Edition was merely a gallery of images from the Pokemon games, and it seems that Pokemon Yellow wasn't a game either, although its description said it was.
Once purchased, the app just crashed when opened.
Gotta catch 'em all
Speaking to Develop, The Pokemon Company said: "We continue to combat the unauthorised release of games, applications and merchandise that trick our fans into purchasing something that does not meet our quality standards.
Fans who encounter questionable products should report to us immediately so we can keep other fans from falling victim to these scams.
