UK trade association TIGA has announced that it will stage a 'Discovery Afternoon' in order to connect British indies with press and investors without the need for publishers or PR.
The event, which will take place in London on 20 November, consists of two sessions. The first will give 12 gathered developers the opportunity to connect with investors with a view to raising finance.
The second session will let those same developers present to attending members of the UK games press, and is designed to help independent studios with limited budgets for marketing and PR get their games into the hands of writers and editors.
The who
The event isn't exclusively aimed at mobile studios, but many operate within the space.
Denki is well known for Quarrel Deluxe on iOS, The Oliver Brothers and Blitz Games Studios have dabbled in iOS development with Kumo Lumo and Liverpool-based Atomicom has developed a number of titles for Android.
Social and mobile games studio Legendary Games, cross-platform developer Boss Level Games and media developer Nellyvision will all be presenting to press and investors, too.
Discover more
"Discovery is the single most important factor for indies. It does not matter how good a game you produce without discoverability you may never succeed," explained Mike Hawkyard, CEO of 4T2 and chairman of TIGA's casual game committee.
"TIGA has handpicked a selection of high quality titles from independent studios that can't yet afford a significant marketing campaign and is running this event to help them gain press coverage.
"Our job at TIGA is to help game studios flourish. We also understand the deadlines and pressure the games media are under to create a newsworthy story. We hope this initiative helps both groups and would welcome feedback on how to do more."
