Hungry Shark Evolution is 'game of the year'

Future Games of London wins big at TIGA's Games Industry Awards

UK trade association TIGA has announced the winners of its annual award ceremony, and there were some notable winners from the mobile games industry.

The top honour went to Hungry Shark Evolution, the iOS and Android title from Future Games of London, which took home the coveted TIGA game of the year award, voted for by the public.

The news comes little over a month after the studio was acquired by French publishing giant Ubisoft.

A "battle for glory"

Also on the list of winners was Haunt the House: Terrortown - a PlayStation Mobile/Vita title from SFB Games - which picked up the award for the best arcade game from a small studio, whilst Stormcloud Games' Mr. Shingu's Paper Zoo took home the award for the best casual game from a small studio.

"This year has seen the best TIGA Games Industry Awards yet, which is particularly encouraging given the TIGA Awards are especially designed to celebrate the best in creativity, technological innovation and games business at all levels and in all sectors of the UK games industry," said Dr. Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO.

"We wanted to reward the achievements of everyone that contributes to the UK's games business. Given the incredibly high standards of all this year's entries, especially the finalists, meant picking winners was harder than ever for our judges.

"I'd like to congratulate this year's winners, they are all fully deserving of their moment in the spotlight. I look forward to the UK games community resuming the battle for glory in 2014."

The rest of the best

Stealth Inc, Curve Studios' 2D platformer that's available on a wide variety of platforms, including PlayStation Vita and Android, nabbed the award for the best action adventure game (large studio).

Whilst another worthy winner came in the form of Mediatonic's Amateur Surgeon 3, which scooped up the award for the best social game (large studio).

What do you call someone who has an unhealthy obsession with video games and Sean Bean? That'd be a 'Chris Kerr'. Chris is one of those deluded souls who actually believes that one day Sean Bean will survive a movie. Poor guy.
