At Pocket Gamer Connects San Francisco 2015, Tim Train, CEO of Big Huge Games, took to the stage to talk about the success of the company's game DomiNations.
He said that "we wanted to be 20% more free" than similar games, offering players more free items and opportunities to bypass wait timers to encourage them to keep playing.
Speed and balance
Train also commented on the company's approach to development, which required a "jam s*** in and rip s*** out" approach, in order to rapidly make changes to the game if features were not deemed good enough.
He also stated that "we split the line between good design and a good business model", something which he suggested that developers sometimes miss the mark on, leaning too far in one direction at the expense of the other.
