Ovi Store delivers 3 million downloads per day
Keen to demonstrate its credentials against competing platforms and app stores, Nokia has announced that's its Ovi Store is now handling three million downloads per day.

This is up from 2.3 million daily announced during in October and 1.7 million in May.

This momentum has been driven partly by Nokia refreshing the store, making it faster and easier to use with its new Symbian^3 range, as well as more developers coming onboard.

Building out ecosystem

The company says more than 400,000 new developers have joined its developer relations group Forum Nokia in the past 12 months, and 92 have surpassed the million download milestone for their apps. This is up from 70 in October.

Nokia's Qt SDK and tools for Symbian, MeeGo and desktop development have been downloaded 1.5 million times as well.

"Ovi Store is on a strong trajectory fueled by new apps and games from a growing number of partners and more than 250,000 new consumers signing up for Ovi every day," said Tero Ojanperä, Nokia's executive vice president, Services.

"The number of daily downloads has increased from about 2 million to 3 million since September. We anticipate our progress will continue as we have just begun shipping our new Symbian smartphones."
