Every week, Pocket Gamer sister site iPhone Quality Index (iPhone Qi) highlights the newest games to make a critical splash in the cool, seductive waters of the iPhone pool.
Grabbing scores and opinions from all corners of the web, including from 148Apps, AppGamer, and IGN, Qi answers all your iPhone-related questions before you've even asked them.
Today, we're going to focus on two new contenders vying to be crowned king of your iPhone. Both are worthy, but do they have what it takes to win your head, your heart, and your wallet?
Subterranean Homesick Hexagon
Clawing its way up from the core of the earth to the top of the iPhone Qi chart this week is match-three puzzle sequel Azkend 2 HD - The World Beneath.
In gameplay terms, you must drag your finger across similarly coloured hexagonal tiles to clear the board and progress to the next level.
In between stages, however, you are treated to a lavishly presented story, which details your mystical journey through the planet's centre and back to the cities above.
148Apps approved of the game's 60 levels, Time and Medal challenges, and Game Centre support, saying it "deserves a spot on any casual gamer's iOS device".
In the loopMeanwhile, patiently waiting its turn in 6th position is the handsome RPG adventure Chaos Rings II.
A fine example of Square Enix doing what Square Enix does best, this suitably melodramatic turn-based offering has enough nostalgic appeal to satisfy JRPG fans without alienating first-timers.
You play as Darwin, a warrior who has been selected to save the world through the morally questionable slaying of five sacrifices, one of whom is an old friend. Decisions, decisions...
Though it would be remiss of me not to mention the game's hefty £12.99 RRP, Pocket Gamer's reviewer says that, despite a few imperfections, "it more than justifies its premium price tag".
You can get the up-to-date information about which games are reviewing best over at the iPhone Quality Index.

Enchanted from a young age by colour, motion, and sound, James divides his time between obsessing over all things digital and lamenting the death of VHS. He looks forward to a future where machines rule the earth and all political disputes are solved via one round of rock-paper-scissors.
