Orange reveals UK mobile games stats
Orange has announced a series of findings from its Exposure 2 consumer research project, which surveyed more than 2,000 UK mobile media users.

What's that? People who've done one of a list of things on their handset, including downloading games, surfed the mobile internet, watched mobile TV and so on.

Key findings included that 46 per cent of mobile media users access it daily, with homes being a popular venue as well as on the archetypal public transport journey.

Interestingly, respondents said they're more likely to download mobile content - including games - while at home, due to speed, convenience and "alleviating boredom".

However, people do like to play mobile games on the bus, apparently. Meanwhile, respondents also seemed open to the idea of playing sponsored free mobile games, although Orange hasn't released specific stats on that.

The thrust of Orange's press release announcing the research is around advertising and marketing, so we asked the operator if it could break out any more specific mobile games stats for PocketGamer.biz. It kindly agreed. So...

  • 55 per cent of all mobile media users play games on their mobile phone.

  • 68 per cent of 16-24 year-olds have played games on their handset.

  • 59 per cent of 25-44 year-olds have played games on their handset.

  • 37 per cent of 45-64 year-olds have played games on their handset.

  • 58 per cent of men have played games on their phone, but for women the figure is 52 per cent.

So there you have it.
