Having set out to carve a space for itself in the increasingly competitive game engine market, Moai creator Zipline Games has now taken a stab at game development, rolling out its first game across iOS, Android and Chrome.
Platformer-cum-puzzler Wolf Toss took six months to develop and will stand as the first in a line of games Zipline hopes will illustrate the quality of games that Moai can power.
Like a drug
As such, Moai remains the focus, with free release Wolf Toss described by CEO Todd Hooper as Angry Birds on steroids - designed to showcase the simplicity of the tools behind it.
"Wolf Toss is a lot of fun. I spent a big chunk of my Thanksgiving holiday playing the release candidate," said Hooper.
"It's also meaningful to mobile game developers, because Wolf Toss was created by a small game team using Moai and is now available for half a billion devices between iOS, Android, and Chrome.
"Performance is great on all three platforms and there was no need for an expensive porting effort."
Moai momentum
Hooper also points to Crimson: Steam Pirates the first game to launch from Bungie's Aerospace indie program which also utilised Moai.
"It's great to follow up on the success of Crimson: Steam Pirates with a title of our own that showcases the power of Moai to bring a polished, freemium game to an amazingly broad player audience."
Zipline recently expanded its board, taking on former Microsoft games head Shane Kim back in August.
