Flash award winner to hit smartphones and tablets

Square Enix picks up KooZac for iOS and Android as creator Cusack joins to head up mobile division
In its latest move in the mobile market, Square Enix has gone a step further than simply signing a deal to publish Flash-based puzzler KooZac on smartphones – it's also hired its creator to serve as its new mobile head.

Ben Cusack will lead the publisher's mobile division from Square Enix's UK office, with the company having acquired the license to publish his title across both iOS and Android.

Next level

"It's hugely exciting to know the new version has the publishing and marketing support of Square Enix behind it," said Cusack.

"On a personal and professional level I look forward to taking KooZac to a much wider audience via the forthcoming smartphone and tablet versions."

Starting life as a web-based Flash game, KooZac has amassed 15 million plays online and also managed to pick up Channel 4's Best International Interactive Viral award in the process.

Cusack joins a number of new hires at Square Enix as it pushed into the mobile arena, including Clinton Foy who joined the US arm of the firm as COO in September 2011.

KooZac's debut on smartphones and tablets is due "later this year".
