Having previously released its own games, despite pushing a new publishing model, US outfit Scopely's debut third party release was always going to be crucial.
So it's good news that Rocket Jump's Mini Golf Matchup has been the #1 free iOS game in 30 countries, as well as sitting in the US iPhone top 50 top grossing charts since its mid-March launch.
"It's exceeded all expectations," says Scopely CEO Walter Driver.
On to the next success
This is just the start of the company's plans, however, and that's why it's strengthening its executive team.
17-year industry veteran Darion Lowenstein joined in March as VP of game development.
"I was impressed by the people at Scopely, their passion and knowledge of the industry," says Lowenstein; himself no stranger to such attributes thanks to stints with Rockstar, Activision and more recently EA Mobile.
"It's one thing to talk about your business model, but it's another thing to deliver on it," he adds on the subject of Mini Golf Matchup.
At Scopely, he will oversee all internal and third party development, including with the likes of Double Fine, Big Cave and High Line, as well as looking to sign up new titles.
