Card City Nights and Threes! are heading the Quality Index's Top 10 rated iOS and Android games of March 2014

If you were wondering what the best-reviewed iOS and 'droid games on the web last month were, here are the iPhone Quality Index, iPad Quality Index, and Android Quality Indexround-ups for March to fill you in.

The iPhone, iPad, and Android Quality Indexes boast over 650,000 reviews (in total) from websites like 148Apps, Pocket Gamer, and IGN, and use a unique metric to create a single definitive score for each iOS and Android title.

Play your cards right

Card City Nights tops the iPhone Qi (and iPad Qi) games chart for March with its quirky take on the card battler.

It's all about building decks and outmanoeuvring your rival in one-on-one battle, albeit in a fresh and wacky cartoon setting.

Can't say fairer than that.

At #2 on the iPad leaderboard this month is Out There, a brutal sci-fi strategy game that sees you exploring mysterious planets, scavenging for resources, and dying a cruel death in the cold void of space. Repeatedly.

If Out There is all about death, then Principia is all about life. Well, the creation of life. Well, the creation of objects. Anyway.

This is ostensibly a rough and ready physics-puzzler, you see. The true delight in Bithack's game comes from building your own contraptions from its library of tools and toys, though.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, hit casual puzzler Threes! tops the Android Qi games chart for March.

It's all about combining matching number cards, managing space, and besting your last high score.

No such complicated - ahem - mathematical concerns in Smash Hit, mind.

In this one, you are simply required to smash stuff by, err, hitting it with metal balls. Mediocre's game earns its place at #7 with sharp physics and a Zen atmosphere.

N.B. While we only display the average score to one decimal place, the lists are generated to further significant figures. We just don't show them all.

And, naturally, these are static graphs based on live listings which are subject to constant change as new releases and reviews emerge.

In order to provide a regular marker of the critical zeitgeist, however, we will continue to round up the best of the iOS and Android games released each month to provide the definitive Quality Index top tens.
