At Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki 2014, we bought together a panel of top developers to discuss how key trends in the mobile games industry.
Moderated by Chris James, the panel consisted of:
- Matias Myllyrinne, Remedy
- Tero Virtala, RedLynx
- David Bluhm, DropForge, and
- Teemu Huuhtanen, Next Games
As a triple-A console developer coming to mobile, Myllyrinne said, "What we learn from mobile is games-as-a-service, running analytics, and better marketing methods".
Yet, he argued that high quality console production methods are also coming to mobile.
"I think we're moving towards a sweet spot," he concluded.
Expanded horizons
Virtala agreed, although he was thinking more about the reach of mobile games.
"Games used to be a niche market," he said, pointing out it used to reach around 1-3 percent of the world's population.
"Now we're talking about 10 or 20 percent of the world's population," he commented.
"Finally we are becoming mass market."
