Nvidia Tegra processor powers Nintendo Switch

Nintendo’s new console the Nintendo Switch will be powered by a custom Nvidia Tegra processor.

The scalable processor includes an Nvidia GPU which the graphics firm claims is based on the same architecture as “the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards”. This doesn't mean it will power all of the latest high-performance games, however.

Nvidia said the Nintendo Switch is supported by fully custom software, including a revamped physics engine, new libraries, advanced game tools and libraries.

It also created new gaming APIs, such as NVN, to “bring lightweight, fast gaming to the masses”.

Optimised for mobile use

“We’ve optimised the full suite of hardware and software for gaming and mobile use cases,” read a statement from Nvidia.

“This includes custom operating system integration with the GPU to increase both performance and efficiency.”
