Mobile content firm Zed has acquired Flash Lite developer Mobitween, with mobile games playing a key role in the deal.
The company has developed more than 100 Flash Lite games, and has distribution deals with operators including Verizon Wireless and Orange.
Mobitween also has technology for Flash Lite gaming communities, including ratings, sharing and online high scores. The acquisition is a big move into Flash Lite for Zed, which has previously focused on Java and BREW in its mobile game offering.
"We can now offer our worldwide partners and customers a powerful foundation to provide innovative entertainment and the best solution to build games portals where the consumer will enjoy the most attractive casual games," says Zed CEO Javier Pérez Dolset.
It seems Mobitween's existing carrier deals won't necessarily be junked, despite Zed's tendency to develop games in-house then keep them exclusive to its own retail channels, judging by comments from the company.
"The demand of casual games is increasing worldwide and Zed has a full range offering for both direct to consumer channels or under B2B relationships with carriers, media and consumer brands," says director of Zed Games Juan Carlos Gonzalvez.
The acquisition follows Zed's announcement last month that it had secured a 92.5m credit agreement for expansion.
