Bubble Boom Challenge victorious

Zed scoops Sony Ericsson content award
Sony Ericsson has revealed the winners of its second annual Content Awards contest, and it's good news for Spanish firm Zed.

The company's Bubble Boom Challenge won the It's All About The Entertainment category in the awards - which appears to be the one that mobile games were eligible for.

Given Sony Ericsson's history of supporting mobile games, it's a little surprising that games were bundled into a catch-all entertainment category with video, rather than getting their own slot.

Anyway, Zed's winning title appears to be a reworked version of Bubble Boom, the firm's Zuma-inspired iPhone puzzler that's up for an IMGA award next week at Mobile World Congress.

UPDATE - Zed has been in touch to say that Bubble Boom Challenge was actually developed first, before the iPhone version.

Zed, along with the other category winners, gets a prize of a two-day visit to Sony Ericsson's development site in Lund, Sweden, to meet key execs at the handset maker.

Other non-game winners included Upvise (Being Productive category), GPSed (In-Car Applications), Mobiles' Republic Media Explorer (Lifestyle Choice), Flash Lite Wallpapers (Themes & Graphics), EcoMate (Special Recognition) and Spb Traveller (Xperia Panels).

"The high standard of competition entries shows that the mobile content industry is alive with innovation and energy," says Bjorn Ahlberg, head of Sony Ericsson Content & Services.
