Dramatic increase in profitability

Gameloft's FY09 current operating income up 215% to 10.4 million euros
As is the way with French companies, Gameloft (GFT.PA) has finally released its full financial figures, including income, for its FY2009.

As previously announced in February, sales during the 2009 calendar year were €122 million, up 11 percent on 2008's €110.3 million.

Costs of goods sold increased from €11.1 million in 2008 to €15.5 million in 2009, while R&D and sales and marketing costs decreased slightly by €2.2 million to €85.5 million.

Gameloft's current operating income for 2009 was €10.4 million compared to €3.3 million in 2008, giving a margin of 8.6 percent.

Taking into account stock-based compensation, operating income was €7.7 million compared to €0.4 million in 2008.

Cash generation was strong with over €9.0 million generated during 2009. The company has no debt.

Earning from App Store

Full year revenues from mobile game sales (94 percent of total sales) were up 12 percent, thanks mainly to the performance of iPhone games. (The remaining 6 percent of sales came from Gameloft's digital distribution on the likes of DSiWare and WiiWare.)

Gameloft said that during Q4, iPhone revenue was €7.0 million, up 115 percent, and much higher than the predicted €4.4 million.

Over the entire year, total sales from iPhone were €17.6 million, or 14 percent of the mobile total.
