Finnish developer Next Games has a lot riding on its new games as it tries to expand its business.

It recently released location-based augmented reality game The Walking Dead: Our World, and now it’s launched mobile RPB Blade Runner 2049 into open beta on Android. The development became our hottest story of the week.

Second on our Hot Five is the news that Candy Crush Saga was the highest grossing game from a Western developer in Q2 2018. An impressive feat for a game first launched on mobile back in 2012.

Celebrities, acquisitions, and $1bn

Next up was the news that Peak Games has partnered with Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds on a series of ads as part of a performance marketing campaign for Toon Blast.

Elsewhere private equity group PAI Partners is in discussions to acquire board game company Asmodee in a $1.4 billion deal, and Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle has generated more than $1bn in revenue over two years.
