Whether or not a case of wishful thinking on Microsoft's part, the apperance of an Angry Birds icon on its Windows Phone website has done very little for its relationship with developer Rovio Mobile.
The icon, which is currently being used to promote the apps set to hit the platform's marketplace, has resulted in the developer complaining that it has had no consultation with Microsoft over its use.
Raging Rovio?
Rovio claims it has no plans to bring the title to Windows Phone 7, and has called on Microsoft to remove the icon accordingly.
"We have not committed to doing a Windows Phone 7 version, at least not yet" the firm said via its Twitter account.
"Microsoft [has] put the Angry Birds icon on their site without our permission. We could do a Windows Phone 7 version - [that's] not the issue. We will support all relevant platforms."
The world is watching
In a response made to TechFlash, Microsoft stated the icon's appearance on the site was an error.
"It appears information was mistakenly posted to Microsoft's website, and has been removed," a spokesperson told the site.
"We have nothing new to share, but stay tuned for announcements from Microsoft and its partners on Monday."
Indeed, the Angry Birds debacle has arisen on the very day Microsoft plans to officially launch Windows Phone 7 to the world's press, with the icon having remained visible on the site long after the firm's declaration to the contrary.
