Symbian to close web presence in mid December
The gradual dismantling of Symbian as a mobile operating system vendor is continuing with the news that its websites will be shut down.

Various URLS such as symbian.org, developer.symbian.org and blog.symbian.org (and variations therein, as well as Facebook and Twitter activity) will be shuttered on December 17, as the organisation slips into non-profit licensing mode, and development of the open source OS goes inhouse at Nokia.

It's expected the appropriate developer tools, such as source code, kits, wiki, bug database, reference documentation and Symbian Ideas, will be made available in some form, most likely on a DVD or USB hard drive upon request to the Symbian Foundation.

Over to Nokia

In addition, Symbian will be supported via Nokia's cross platform Qt platform, which also handles MeeGo, PC and Linux, development, and Forum Nokia will be the place to get developer support.

Symbian expects to have closed down all its current day-to-day by the end of 2010.
