Mobile sales are up. Revenues are up. But Samsung's Q2 2011 results showed a slight dip in profits, falling by 19 percent year on year to 3.5 trillion KWN ($3.3 billion).
There's little reason for the Korean firm to be all too alarmed, however.
Following on from the revelation that the firm's Galaxy S II handset has hit sales of 5.5 million units in 85 days (that's before the device even launches in the US), Samsung reported revenue growth of 4 percent to 39.44 trillion KWN ($37.4 billion) throughout the quarter.
Mobile mattersAs Galaxy S II sales would suggest, this bump was largely spurred by the performance of Samsung's handsets, with mobile sales up 43 percent year on year.
Breaking the figures down, Samsung's Mobile Communications Business saw a revenues rise of 45 percent to 11.69 trillion KRW ($11.1 billion).
The average sales price of handsets also increased by more than 10 percent.
"Despite the challenging business environment and global economic uncertainties, we achieved continued year-on-year revenue growth in the second quarter driven by mobile device sales, particularly the success of our smartphones," said VP and investor relations team head Robert Yi.
"Heading into the third quarter - which typically sees increased consumer demand for electronics we expect competition to remain tight, and will continue to enhance our cost competitiveness and technology leadership in the components businesses."
