Games are the dominant category for app stores, in terms of number of titles and number of downloads, but according to a report from market intelligent outfit research2guidance, maybe developers should be looking elsewhere for revenue.
While it calculates the average revenue for any app on Android Market is $2,437 - the average per game is around $5,000 - the best category is weather apps.
Rain or shine
Research2guidance reckons these generate, on average, over $20,000 per app. Of course, that's because there's only 7,000 of them, of which only 13 percent are paid.
Business apps are the only other category on Android Market with a significantly high average, although - as with all averages - developers are much more likely to make large sums of revenue from big hits when it comes to games, even if that only relates to a relatively small number of titles.
