In partnership with app revenue driver BlueVia, UK game trade association TIGA has announced it's to hold a 24 hour GameHack designed to serve up fresh content for both mobile devices and browsers.
The overnight event, which will run between 28 April and 29 April at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, will task entrants with making a game from scratch designed to compete across a total of seven different categories.
Mobile first
Many of the categories are specifically targeted at the smartphone market best use of mobile, best mobile social game hack, and best Flash game for iOS being three of those on offer.
Others, however, focus on technology, such as the retro game re-boot for HTML5, and the prize for best cross platform application, proposed by development framework Marmalade.
"The TIGA and BlueVia GameHack is a great innovation for TIGA and for its members and there are some terrific prizes on offer which will make a real difference to developers and digital publishers," said TIGA CEO Dr. Richard Wilson.
"I am delighted that TIGA is staging the GameHack and I would like to thank all our partners for making such generous prizes available for the winners."
Winning mentality
Such prizes include a professional license for Made with Marmalade (worth $3,499), two £500 cash prizes, 25,000 guaranteed downloads through PapayaMobile's Social Game Engine, and one year's free membership of TIGA, amongst numerous others.
Other companies involved include Antix, Adobe and Turbulenz.
The GameHack itself will be free for all entrants, though TIGA's not for profit nature means those taking part will need to make a £5 charity donation to support the likes of GamesAid and O2 Think Big.
Those looking to register need to do so at the GameHack website, where a full schedule and run down of categories and prizes are also on offer.
