UKIE launches games dev tax breaks consultation
UK trade body UKIE has responded to the Government's call for input on its forthcoming tax breaks for the games industry by launching what it calls an 'inclusive consultation process'.

As a result, UKIE is to hold individual sessions with what it claims is a wide cross section of the games industry in the UK to "drill deeper into the issues."

The body is keen to encourage any publishers and developers that would like to add their input to get in touch, with larger group meetings with UKIE members also on the cards.

Speak up

"UKIE's consultation programme will hear opinions from as many people within the industry as possible, to ensure that a tax break is designed to fully benefit all parts of the industry," the body said in a statement.

"Additionally, UKIE is planning on holding several regional meetings around the country, to make sure that all parts of the industry are able to be heard."

Set dates and venues for these meetings are yet to be announced, but UKIE claims "existing and growing games clusters" such as Birmingham, Dundee and Bristol are likely to play host.

All ears

Feedback gathered will then be delivered to the UK Treasury at several events held to canvass industry opinion – of which UKIE will be in attendance - during a 12 week period of consultation, ending 10 September.

"UKIE is in a great position to listen to the industry to help shape the Government's thinking on the tax breaks to ensure we get the best possible system for UK businesses," added CEO Jo Twist.

"We'll be reaching out to as many people as possible and making sure we are in conversation with TIGA, as part of our consultation process.

"Our membership now includes some of the very best of UK development talent and we will be helping them to have their voice heard by Government on this vital issue."

The full consultation as published by the UK Treasury can be viewed on the its website.
