Ouya, the $99 home console powered by Android, exceeded its crowdfunding goal of $950,000 approximately eight hours after the project's Kickstarter page went live.
At the time of writing, the project has generated more than $2.4 million worth of pledges, just one day after its Kickstarter launched.
Kickstarter users have another 28 days in which to pledge money.
Ouya is a home console based on the Android OS and powered by a Tegra 3 quad-core processor. Its creators turned to crowdfunding to pay for production orders, first-party game development, and the delivery of early dev-kits ahead of launch.
Loadsa money
Ouya founder and CEO Julie Uhrman formerly VP, digital at Gamefly thanked the project's backers in an update on the project's Kickstarter page.
"Do you realise what you've done? You proved consoles aren't dead. You shocked the world. And us! We are blown away by your support. With your help, we just raised $2 million. And its only the first day," Uhrman said.
It would seem that Ouya is attracting more money than it knows what to do with, and Uhrman is asking the Kickstarter community for help figuring that out.
"We want to blow you away. The biggest thing for us right now: we are working on our stretch goals, what we can do if we raise more money. It might take us a few days to figure that out, and we want your help.
"Tell us what you would like the stretch goals to be at ideas@ouya.tv."
Developers can contact Ouya through devs@ouya.tv.
