Designed to in the words of Apple - honour apps that "raise the bar in design, technology, and innovation", three games have picked up accolades at the annual Apple Design Awards.
Indeed, two of them came out on top in one category iPhone and iPad with Ridiculous Fishing by Dutch studio Vlambeer and Finnish outfit Frogmind's Badland sharing the award with Yahoo Weather.
Bad winner
"Badland's intuitive one-touch controls and immersive sound design complement the balanced, physics-based gameplay as players discover imaginative traps and overcome endless obstacles," detailed Apple on the awards page.
"In either single- or multi-player mode, the excellent production values and brilliant execution leverage OpenGL ES, Game Center, iCloud, and Retina display. Badland is designed specifically for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch."
Similar praise was naturally reserved for Ridiculous Fishing.
Promo power
"With engaging physics-based gameplay mixed with humour, players follow the main character in his search for redemption," said Apple on Vlambeer's release.
Ridiculous Fishing
Apple kicked off its annual Design Awards in 1997 as the Human Interface Design Excellence awards before switching to the current moniker a year later. Winners are boosted by promotion on Apple's website.
Also honoured was Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders in the iPhone, iPad and Mac category, with Apple praising the game's "wide variety of single and multiplayer options and a large inventory of accurately-rendered aircraft".
