Despite being founded on the assumption that it would release F2P games, French developer Kobojo has had a change of heart.

At least, that's the situation with the western release of its forthcoming game Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey.

A JRPG that's being developed with input from Final Fantasy veterans, writer Kazushige Nojima and composer Hitoshi Sakimoto at Kobojo's Dundee studio will now be a paid game on iOS.

Retooling

"Listening to the great feedback we received after showing the game at GDC and E3, we've made the unprecedented decision to shift gears from Kobojo's usual free-to-play format to make Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey a premium game for Western audiences," said CEO Mario Rizzo.

"We're excited to announce that the launch of game will offer an original Nojima-san storyline and the thrilling gameplay that we've all been hoping to see from a new JRPG product in a standalone, one-time premium game purchase, with episodic content updates to continue the epic saga of Orcanon."

As well as iOS, Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey will also be released on PC and Sony platforms.
