GameSparks surpasses 35 million MAUs for its backend-as-a-service platform

Backend-as-a-service developer GameSparks has now hit a milestone of supporting 35 million MAUs and over 250 million players.

The cloud-based service is used by developers to scale their backend development and server-side components. It currently supports mobile titles such as Pixel Toys' Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade and Square Enix's Lara Croft: Relic Run.

While primarily used for mobile games, GameSparks has also been making inroads into PC and console development. It was used by Dinosaur Polo Club's Mini Metro, which eventually made its way to mobile.

Helping everyone

"Our backend-as-a-service tools have helped developers big and small to overcome server side challenges, such as running an in-game economy or supporting stable real time multiplayer services. But we’re always looking for new ways to help the industry as a whole," said GameSparks CMO John Griffin, as reported by Develop.

"By transferring over our experience supporting mobile games as a service to other platforms, we believe that we can help developers to support service driven games whatever their background - helping them to grow and succeed."

GameSparks has ventured outside of its usual remit in recent months. In September 2016 it hosted its first ever game jam at its headquarters in Dublin.
