Monument Valley 2 storms the App Store download charts to take top spot

Ustwo’s newly released Monument Valley 2 has stormed the App Store charts and headed straight to top spot in the download rankings.

The sequel to the hit puzzle game was a surprise announcement during Apple’s WWDC keynote, in part of a section showing off a new-look App Store design.

The game was released at the same time and has quickly topped the download charts in countries such as the UK, US, Canada, Germany and France.

According to App Annie, as of June 6th it had topped the overall rankings in 46 countries and reached the top 10 in 75.

Priced at $4.99, the game has also quickly broken into the upper echelons of the grossing charts to reach 51st in the US so far. It has been the top 10 grossing app in the overall rankings in six countries and has reached the top 100 in 71.

Monumental boost

The original Monument Valley was released in April 2014 when it also topped the US App Store download charts on its first day. In its first month, its grossing position peaked at 15th.

Fast-forward to today and the title has received a new boost in downloads. In the last week, even just before the official announced at WWDC, the game has been on an upward trend.

As of June 6th it had reached ninth in the US App Store download charts.
