Discord experiments with games detection on Android

Games communication app Discord is experimenting with games detection functionality for Android devices.

The feature will be a part of version 7.9.9 and can opted-into via the beta on the Play Store or downloaded online.

The feature displays what the user is currently playing under their username for fellow server users to see. It already works with PC games and even music-streaming service Spotify.

Discord revealed that it was collaborating with Spotify to integrate functionality into its games messaging app in February of this year.

What you playing, man?

In May, the company revealed it now plays host to over 130 million users, which is triple the 45 million users it reported having the year before.

Discord also found itself having to deal with various alt-right servers and multiple accounts associated with hate groups around the time of the events in Charlottesville in the US. The city played host to various demonstrations from white supremacists, which in-turn sparked violence and counter-demonstrations.

The company swiftly shut the servers down and vowed to “continue to take action against white supremacy, Nazi ideology and all forms of hate in a statement on Twitter.

The company is also reportedly valued at $725 million thanks to a $50 million funding round in January 2017.
