Unity opens nominations for annual awards

Winners announced at Unite 11

Unity opens nominations for annual awards
Nominations are now open for Unity Technologies' annual awards bash, scheduled to take place at this year's Unite conference in San Francisco.

Designed to recognise quality releases utilising the platform, a total of seven awards are up for grabs covering games for both iOS and Android, as well as titles designed for console and the web.

Seventh heaven

As well as typical accolades for the best graphics, gameplay and cross-platform releases, Unity's showcase will honour the best student release, best non-game, and a specialist community choice award.

Unity will also hand the Golden Cube award to the Grand Prix winner.

"We continue to be blown away by what people create using Unity," said CCO Nicholas Francis.

"Now that our registered user base has surpassed 500,000 users with 150,000 of these using it monthly, we can't wait to see this year's nominations and how our users are continuing to raise the bar and set new standards."

Marking off mobile

Though the awards are designed go beyond mobile development, there have been notable triumphs for the industry in the past.

Previous winners include Max and the Magic Marker (iOS, Windows Phone) from Press Play, Air Attack HD (iOS, Android) from Art in Games, Nonverbal's Colorbind (iOS), and Tumbledrop (iOS) from Starfruit Games.

Nominations, which have to be made via Unity's website, need to be submitted by August 8.

A judging committee comprised of Unity employees will then determine the winners in each category, before announcing the lucky games during Unite 11 on September 28-30.
