Scottish developer Outplay snags Crackdown creator for VP of operations role

Dundee-based mobile games developer Outplay Entertainment has appointed Crackdown creator Phil Wilson as VP of Operations.

As part of his new role, he will be tasked with evolving the studio's live ops production processes and technology to deliver better experiences to growing audiences.

Before the role, Wilson has served as an executive producer at Real Time Worlds and, more recently, as studio and project director for Crackdown 3 at Reagent Games.

According to Outplay, the move follows the company's recent 120 million downloads landmark across its portfolio.

"Having witnessed Outplay’s meteoric rise here in Dundee to become one of the UK’s premier games developers, I’m very excited to be part of the company’s next growth phase,” said Wilson.

“Although offering a refreshing change from large triple-A console games development, many of the opportunities in live operations of mobile games rely on similar operational foundations.

“With the support of the rich seam of talent, I’m confident that we’ll continue to build on the company’s success and reputation for excellence."

Outplay president and co-founder Richard Hare added: “We are excited to welcome Phil into the Outplay family, to help lead several pillars of our Games as a Service strategy as we maximise growth in 2019 and beyond.”

Outplay was recently ranked 46th in PocketGamer.biz's Top 50 Developer list for 2018.
