Palm launches developer purchase program

Registered studios can buy discounted units

Palm launches developer purchase program
Much to the chagrin of some audience members, Palm didn't give away any free Pres during its GDC 2010 talk, but it has relaunched its developer purchase program.

The set-up offers webOS developers discounted Pre and Pixi handsets through the firm's website.

Focusing on registered Palm developers in the US or Canada, each studio is able to buy one handset each directly from Palm itself.

With the cost reduced by 20 percent based on full retail prices, each phone comes with free two day shipping, the Pre Plus on Verizon listed for $479.99, the Pixi and Pixi Plus coming in at $439.99.

UK studios haven't been left completely out of the loop, however.

Palm is also offering a standard Pre handset on O2 for $439.99 (around £290). O2 currently sells the Pre model in the UK on an 18 month contract, tariffs ranging from £30 to £65 a month.

Palm claims the offer will stand either "while supplies last", or through until the end of next month.
