It's not often games can claim to be more popular on Android than iPhone, but numbers released by Rovio at GDC 2011 suggests Angry Birds is breaking down barriers on that particular score.
According to the developer's latest stats, total downloads of Angry Birds on Android have now topped 30 million units, less than 5 months after the game made its debut.
Comparing Apples and Androids
To put that figure in some kind of context, it took Angry Birds 8 months to shift 6.5 million copies on iPhone.
In contrast, Angry Birds on Android's download rate averages out at 6 million units every month alone.
Of course, the differentiating factor here is, Angry Birds is free on Android, with Rovio using an ad-supported model of the game to drive revenues rather than charging consumers up front.
As a result, said download rates are not exactly a like for like comparison, though it does suggest Rovio is well on its way to making the $1 million a month from advertising the developer originally targeted at the end of 2010.
