No micro move: Tadhg Kelly becomes Ouya's 'free-to-play' guy

Games industry veteran Tadhg Kelly has joined the Ouya team, taking on the self proclaimed role of the "free-to-play guy".

Kelly has bags of industry experience, having worked as a columnist, consultant and designer, before spending the past year becoming increasingly vocal about the potential of microconsoles.

Indeed, it's that very potential that Kelly will be attempting to help the Ouya realise, though steering the ship back on course will be easier said than done, with the NPD recently reporting that device sales have been "relatively light".

New blood

"Fundamentally I love the idea that TV gaming - in the guise of big consoles - is the last frontier for big disruption," details Kelly on his blog.

"While PC, mobile and tablet games have all become much more democratic places to make games, TV games have remained more church-like. Ouya and similar systems, to my mind, change that."

Kelly goes on to explain he will primarily be managing "second-party relationships" - as in the developers with which Ouya has established a partnership with.

"Another aspect of my role is to be the free-to-play guy. I've worked a lot in social games and know a bit about how f2p works well or badly.

"There's a lot of awesome games both on and wanting to be on Ouya, and some of those want to do so in the sell-you-virtual-hats sort of way. I'm here to help them figure out how."

What do you call someone who has an unhealthy obsession with video games and Sean Bean? That'd be a 'Chris Kerr'. Chris is one of those deluded souls who actually believes that one day Sean Bean will survive a movie. Poor guy.
