Analytics acquisition: Yahoo to acquire mobile data giant Flurry

Yahoo has today announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire mobile analytics firm, Flurry.

The acquisition is a part of Yahoo's mission to "reimagine users' daily habits", with the firm hoping that Flurry can help them understand mobile: a platform it believes is at "the centre of everything we do".

As a result of the move, Flurry will now have more resources to help speed up the delivery of its platforms, reach the right users, and discover new revenue opportunities.

Ultimately though, it's claimed the partnership will enable both companies to built better analytics products, helping developers and publishers tap into new revenue streams.

An indispensable platform

Scott Burke, Yahoo's SVP of advertising technology, insists that the merge will benefit the entire mobile ecosystem as well as the companies involved.

"Yahoo’s growth in mobile traffic comes from great people and great products," said Burke.

With Yahoo we are in an even better position to achieve our joint goals.

"Flurry’s success is the result of years of committed investment by a passionate team to create an indispensable platform for mobile developers.

"We want to harness our collective innovative spirit and bolster the mobile ecosystem by providing developers the analytics and monetisation solutions to drive their success."

Flurry President and CEO, Simon Khalaf, hopes that the partnership will give his outfit the chance to step up its game and provide greater assistance to the 170,000 developers currently using its analytics tools.

“As part of Yahoo, Flurry will continue to serve the application developer community in the way we always have, only better,” said Simon Khalaf, President and CEO, Flurry.

"Over the last six years we have accomplished a lot on our own, but with Yahoo we are in an even better position to achieve our joint goals.”
