Kingston University London has opened a new AR and VR facility in its recently redesigned games lab for use by its students.
The Centre for Augmented and Virtual Reality Environments - CAVE for short - will give students at the university access to high-end development equipment and test kits to work on their games.
Kingston University is investing £53,000 ($66,000) in the new facility. It will be used not only by students on the game development courses, but from other areas of the university too.
Inter-disciplinary
"Having games programming students working with design students on various aspects of a project is exactly how the digital media industry works," said Professor Vesna Brujic-Okretic, head of the School of Computer Science and Mathematics at Kingston.
"It's that level of inter-disciplinary work and the exchange of views that will broaden the horizons of each and every one of them and help make sure they are industry-ready."
Universities in the UK are regularly on the look out to expand their game development opportunities. In January 2017 Abertay University partnered with China's Perfect World to nurture game development in the region.
