Swedish mobile game developer Polarbit was one of the first to highlight the potential of Nokia's Ovi Store.

It announced one million downloads across five games - mainly free - within two weeks in February 2010.

We caught up with project manager Tommy Forslund to find out what the studio, which has a reputation for high end 3D graphics and cross platform releases, makes of Nokia's recent announcements.

Pocket Gamer: Were you impressed by Nokia's announcements at Nokia World 2010?

Tommy Forslund: There are some interesting devices coming up that we look forward to getting our hands on.

What do you think about the N8?

It's a nice device which is up against some pretty stiff competition. We'd be surprised if it doesn't do well, at least, in Europe. Time will tell when it comes to the other markets.

More generally, will you be supporting Symbian^3 as a mobile OS?

We definitely intend to. It's part of our core business idea to support every available native smartphone platform.

What are your views about MeeGo?

It's a very nice operating system, with a huge potential. Hopefully, Nokia will be able to harness that potential and make it a success.

Do you think Ovi Store is now a viable commercial app store for games?

There are a large number of devices able to access Ovi Store, which is a strong argument for it. It has a few issues, but then again so do all the other mobile application stores.

Were you impressed with the potential of being able to do operator billing and in-app purchases via Ovi Store?

The means have been there for a while, so we're happy that Nokia's made it available.

How big an issue is it for you that Nokia doesn't have any presence in the North American market?

North America is a key market, so of course it is a bit of an issue. In the end, however, a sale is a sale, regardless if the customer is from America or someplace else in the world.

What do you think Nokia still needs to do to encourage more game developers to support it?

Speaking as primarily a 3D developer, make sure there are GPUs in all devices it releases.
Thanks to Tommy for his time.
