GDC Europe 11 to play host to smartphone and tablet summit on August 16
Building on the momentum from its smartphone summit at the US version of GDC in February, GDC Europe 11 is set to host a new mobile-focus event when it kicks off in Cologne this August.

The Smartphone & Tablet Games Summit will focus on development across iOS, Android and BlackBerry.

The aim is to bring the development community together around the concept of sharing ideas, introducing best practices and – perhaps most keenly – discussing the industry's future.

Smart summit

Running alongside the main GDC Europe trade show, two sessions have so far been confirmed for the summit.

Fishlabs CTO Marc Hehmeyer will discuss Galaxy on Fire 2's progression from iOS to Android, focusing on how to port for multiple versions of Google's platform – Froyo, Gingerbread and Honeycomb – as well as the Android Market submission process and the multitude of other app stores on the OS.

Head of mobile development at Exozet Games, Matthias Hellmund, will also talk about what kind of board games are most suitable for smartphone and tablet adaptations.

"This program will highlight the nuts and bolts of great game design and reveal successful business strategies behind this new breed of popular smartphones," organisers say of the summit, which will run for one day on August 16.

More information on the summit can be found on GDC Europe 11's webpage.
