Microsoft launches UK-based studio to deliver Windows 8 games
With Microsoft's debut tablet – the Windows 8-powered Surface – gearing up for launch at the end of October, the American giant has set about securing content for it.

MCV reports Microsoft has opened up a new development studio in the UK specifically designed to deliver games for tablets running Windows 8.

The outfit, set to be based initially in Microsoft Studios' Great Pulteney Street base in London, is currently in the process of hiring staff, with full operations expected to kick off in November.

"I'm hugely excited by this new venture," said studio head and former Rare production director Lee Schuneman.

"Adding a fourth UK-based studio to the incredible roster of talent already in place not only increases our in-region studio presence, but will allow Microsoft Studios to explore the many creative and business opportunities that developing new games and entertainment experiences on Windows 8 tablet devices and platforms will afford."
